My daughter is 18 yrs old. She has been working hard on her preparation for her various exam given that she is in her 12th grade. In fact she would be taking far more tests than I would have taken in my life. As a father, I have been pushing her hard to work on her preparation. Today in anger she blurted out that "I do not appreciate her efforts and only finds fault with her".
So what does a father need from her daughter ? I am sure it is not any different if it was a son.
A. I want her to live a everlasting happy and content life
Actually this is what all parents want. We actually have a strange way of saying this and we tend to solution this. We want them to be engineers, doctors etc...We think that this will give them money and hence happiness.
B. I want her to be self reliant.
Yes. In the new world where family structures are being threatened, I want her to have financial independence. Yes and I would rather have her earn it so that she feels proud about it.
C. I want her to be empathetic.
I want her to say and do things that shows her concern for people before her. I want her to respect every view that comes across but have a independant point of view.
D. I want her to be able to give back to the world
I have always wanted to do this but have not done enough. I have given myself some excuse or other on why I did not do. I hope that my daughter/s is able to do more.
E. I want her to go and see the world
I have travelled quite a bit, but mostly on business and hence not been able to appreciate the diversity around the world as much. I hope my daughter/s get to travel just to see and appreciate the world and its beauty as we all have a limited time in the world.
I can put down a lot more, but the core of those will be hidden among the above. This blog is for every daughter in this world. Especially to daughters working hard at their exams.
"Whatever you do and how ever you fare in your exams, it does not matter. What matters is you are able to move on and create a space for yourself which gives you happiness, not momentary, but everlasting". That is the only thing a father needs from his daughter.

Excellent! It's not just from daughters and I would want pretty much the same for my son; you have captured my thoughts succinctly.
I wish the best for your daughter!
