The race begins

"Sir, there are about 26 people in the queue"!! What should I do ? This was the security firm's supervisor calling me at about 10 AM last Friday. "Get your men in there immediately" was my retort.

Before any of you start making any guesses, let me tell you that this queue was in front of my daughter's school. The school was admitting students for the next academic year starting in June. The application forms for pre-nursery where to be given today. I was trying to get my second daughter into the same school.

By the way, I got my first daughter admitted into this school some 5 years back. Then I bought a flat close to the school to make life a little simpler for all of us. Now, I had to get my second daughter also into the same school. That's where this security firm stepped in.

By the way, the school had noble intentions. Admissions will be given in priority of the completed applications submitted, they said. Only 125 Applications where expected to be given for a total intake of 75. I did not want to take any chances. I had to be in the queue before the 75th person.

"I saw some people in front of the school sitting on chairs". That was my brother with the field report. "450 Rupees for 12 hrs, Sir" called in the Security Supervisor.

End Game

We got the 49th application form. The interview lasted for less than a minute. Grabbing the tofees offered by the Headmistress and giggling with joy my daughter got admitted into her sister's school. My wife heaved a sigh of relief.
Once outside we were mobbed. "What did they ask"? "What did she answer"?. I smiled and conversed for a few minutes and walked past the gate to my Car as if I had just posted the Indian flag on Tiger Hill.
